Book Club-Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg

Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg
For me, this book was laugh out loud funny at times and heartwarming and lovely at other times. If you have ever lived in the South, know Southerners, or are mystified by the Southern way of life, this book shows a funny and entertaining view of thing that happen in the South. I fell in love with the family and then all their friends. You will probably realize that you have friends like many of these characters. One of the central ladies in the story has a radio show that she does out of her house daily and she reaches across the nation to help homemakers learn a better recipe, cope with things, and be a friend to those in the rural areas who rarely ever get to see a friendly face. The era in this book is an era long gone but one that I think I might have enjoyed. When she meets a family of gospel singers who travel across the nation to sing, they bring a whole new view of life on the road.
This book is silly, funny, touching, and an easy read. Sometimes I like these kind of books that transport you through time and don't take a whole lot of brain power, you can just sit back and enjoy the characters. We read this for a book club and I have read it once since then.
If you have a favorite book, please let me know. I am an avid reader always looking for a good read!
