Hurricane Ike

Howdy Folks--

I haven't had a chance to post any today. We are all watching Hurricane Ike to see what path he will choose. He currently is heading for the Texas coast and the university I work at is housing some special needs evacuees and we are busily trying to work out all the other arrangments that go with that...so, needless to say, I have been busy! Plus, there is still a chance that he will come visit us as well....ahhh, the fun of hurricane season!

So, bare with me while I take care of some other needs, I will still try to post when I have a moment, it just may not be every day for a few days!

Welcome!

Howdy and Welcome to Beautiful Basics!

To the right you will see the information on why I created this blog under "Why Beautiful Basics?" Its my story in a nutshell.

I hope you can find some inspiration here or at least get some juices flowing if you are looking for a project to do or an HFPE idea. I launched this page today so its new and I will add things as I think of them and have time, but I plan to post fairly regularly, so please check back! Olympics are done!

Well, I am going through withdrawal already....I heart the Olympics....but I will be glad to get back to a normal sleep pattern! I would like to say THANK YOU to China for being gracious hosts and hostesses! ( Being a good host is beautifully basic, of course!)
My blog is still under construction, so bare with me while I tweak it, you may want to ignore it for a while and come back later!

Tomorrow is the first day of school here...which means lots of traffic in town and on campus! And, the students all have money because its the beginning of the semester and mom and dad sent them with money and that haven't bought books yet...so don't even think about going out to eat!

Why Beautiful Basics?

Welcome!!
This is my blog about Beautiful Basics, the basic things that almost seem like lost arts, like baking bread or tatting lace. Its also a blog about little old me. Who am I? A southern girl with Texas roots and American pride who loves the views of Paris, a good art museum, and a good chicken fried steak...I also currently live in Australia.

For those of you who are LDS, I have also been encouraged to add ideas for Relief Society Activity Nights at church. Have you ever had one of those (what I call) revolving door callings? The calling that you keep getting over and over again...you can't figure out if you are good at it and that is why you keep getting called or if you are so bad at it that they keep thinking "maybe this time she will get it right!"? That is me with what was formerly knowns as HFPE. I keep getting called into it in some form or fashion over and over again. I love it when the Bishop or counselor extends the calling and then says " Are you familiar with the HFPE program?" or a similar statement....I just want to say...uh, yeah..remember about 6 months ago when I was in charge of it??!! :) Oh well, I must still have SOMETHING to learn from it! At this exact moment (I hate to jinks myself) I am actually in Primary and not HFPE. So, this is my blog, I hope you find great ideas here and some inspiration. For those in my ward, you will look at this and say...yep, went to that HFPE...so it may be nothing new to you but I also hope to post other ideas as well.
